About the Dennis Johnson Performance Workshops Staff

Dennis C. Johnson, Producing Director

Actor, producer, director, writer, guitarist, choreographer and teacher, Dennis C. Johnson has been in professional theatre and entertainment since he formed an educational touring company while attending San Jose State University as a theatre major with a dance/music minor, and began a decades-long series of thousands of touring performances. While still in his teens, he studied Checceti ballet, modern dance with Martha Graham and José Limon, jazz dance with Paul Draper and Marco Poshar, African dance with Ruth Beckford, and earned brown belts in Judo and Tae Kwon Do.

By age 20, Mr. Johnson was presenting creative dramatics workshops to university graduates receiving teaching credentials. He toured Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan, Korea and the Philippines with USO productions of Guys and Dolls and You’re a Good Man Charley Brown. He performed Spoon River Anthology with his first Equity company at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.

Mr. Johnson has directed, performed and produced contemporary, classical, musical and educational theatre for four decades. He was Artistic Director of the Mount Hope Estate in PA, where he oversaw the growth and development of hundreds of young professional performers. Mr. Johnson was Artistic Director of The Willow Opera Workshop in L.A., Producing Director of the Pocono Renaissance Faire, voice and on-camera talent for national and regional companies, and worked in Hollywood as a songwriter with his now screenwriting partner and long-time friend Eugene McDaniels. Kent Allyn, Musical Accompanist

Kent Allyn has been living and working in the Seacoast area since 1976, working with many bands and accompanying folk artists and singer/songwriters. A multi-instrumentalist who plays piano, guitar and bass and sings, he has played on many recordings. When not playing live or in the studio, he teaches lessons to students of all ages. His musical interests range from rhythm and blues and jazz to Celtic and folk.
